COLUMBIA, Mo. - Junior Melissa Dubay drove in five runs while classmate Shayne Lotito went 4-for-5 with three runs to lead the Boston University softball team past South Dakota State, 10-7, on Saturday evening on the second day of the Tiger Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Sophomore pitcher Megan Currier picked up the win in the circle in 6.2 innings of work, while freshman Kelley Engman earned the save. BU improves to 3-6 on the season.

Juniors Brooke Hudson and Nora Militz drove in two runs apiece and Dubay was 3-for-3 with a triple. Currier struck out two batters and allowed seven earned runs on nine hits while Engman faced just one batter and earned the save with the strikeout.

BU got on the board early with Dubay's single through the left side that plated Lotito, however, South Dakota State quickly returned the favor in the bottom of the frame with a bunt single that drove in one runner to knot the score at one. In the bottom of the next inning, SDSU took the lead on a solo home run to left field.

Two runs in the top of the third reclaimed the advantage for the Terriers when Dubay tripled to center field, bringing home junior Christy Leath and Lotito. In another exchange of power, SDSU drove in two with a solo homer and a run on an illegal pitch.

In a big fifth inning, sophomore Rachel Hebert and Hudson drove in runs, before Militz's double to center field plated Dubay and Hebert to move the score to 7-3. BU tacked on three more in the sixth on Dubay and Hudson's back-to-back singles.

South Dakota State attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh inning, driving in three runs, however, Engman stepped into the circle and struck out the final batter swinging to seal the victory.

On Sunday, March 2, the Terriers will complete the three-day tourney with one final showdown with host Missouri at 2:00 p.m.
