The Boston University softball team (14-11, 3-0 AE) completed its sweep of Vermont (5-15, 0-3 AE) on Sunday afternoon at BU Softball Field. The Terriers got a productive day out of freshman April Setterlund as she collected three hits and the game-winning RBI, while junior Shayne Lotito was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore hurler Cassidi Hardy went six innings, with seven strikeouts and one earned run to pick up her seventh win of the season.
Also collecting multiple hits were juniors Christy Leath and Melissa Dubay, as each went 2-for-3 with one RBI. BU scored seven runs on 11 hits, and recorded six doubles and one triple in the game and held the Catamounts to three hits and one earned run.
Vermont got on the scoreboard early with a long ball to left center field in the first; however, BU responded in the bottom half of the inning with Lotito's RBI double to left center that plated Setterlund. The Terriers then loaded the bases as Dubay escaped a tag on a bunt and junior Brooke Hudson brought home Lotito on a sacrifice fly out to give BU the 2-1 lead.
UVM capitalized on a BU error as an errant throw to first base, allowed for the Catamounts to tie the game. Setterlund struck in the fourth with an RBI double down the left line and Lotito followed up with one of her own on the next at-bat to extend the lead to 4-2.
BU tacked on three more in the sixth to seal the victory as senior Molly Gallagher stole home, and Leath and Dubay followed up with RBI hits to round out the scoring at 7-2. Dubay's triple down the right line was her second of the season.
Sophomore pitcher Megan Currier came in at the top of the seventh to close out the game, retiring the batters in order.
The Terriers will host Providence on Wednesday, April 2 at 4:00 p.m.
