CAMDEN, N.J. -
The Boston University women's rowing team is seeded seventh in a field of 18 crews in the 2008 EAWRC "Eastern" Sprints held on Sunday, May 18 on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Last year, the varsity eight finished fourth in the Petite Final to place tenth overall, while the second novice eight and the third varsity four "B" each went to their Grand Finals.
BU's varsity will race No. 13 Syracuse, No. 1 Brown, No. 6 Dartmouth, No. 12 Navy and No. 18 MIT. The ninth-ranked JV is set to face No. 15 Boston College, No. 3 Radcliffe, No. 4 Princeton, and No. 10 Northeastern. The "A" four, seeded seventh, will race No. 13 Cornell, No. 1 Yale, No. 6 Princeton, and No. 12 Columbia. Finally, the eighth seeded "B" four will row against No. 2 Brown, No. 5 Syracuse and No. 11 Bucknell.
The Terriers have won a trio of titles since the beginning of the Eastern Sprints in 1976. The first title came in 1983 and the last two were back-to-back in 1991 and 1992. The Terriers finished second in the Grand Final in 1993, but that marked BU's best finish until last season's Sprints when the varsity eight placed fourth. The Terriers have also won titles in the lightweight eights, second novice eights and third novice fours.
