The Boston University softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Albany (32-15, 16-5 AE) on Sunday afternoon as the Great Danes clinched the regular-season crown and home field advantage in the America East Championship. BU will enter the post-season tourney as the second-seeded squad with a 29-21 overall record and 15-6 conference mark.
Sophomore Rachel Moeller collected two hits in three at-bats, while classmate Rachel Hebert and freshman April Setterlund went 1-for-3 in the batter's box. Freshman hurler Kelley Engman (6-6) was charged with the loss as she surrendered three runs - two earned - on four hits. Albany's Leah McIntosh earned the victory in a complete-game effort with six strikeouts.
After a scoreless first inning, Albany went up by two in the second frame on a fielder's choice and ground out third base. The Great Danes tacked on one final run in the third on a solo home run to left field.
The 2008 America East Championship will take place in Albany, N.Y., from May 8-10.
