Game 1 | Game 2

Worcester, Mass. - On Thursday afternoon, the Boston University softball team's bats exploded for 19 runs in two games as it swept Holy Cross by 12-0 and 7-1 margins in Worcester, Mass. Senior Shayne Lotito led the way with four hits - including a three-run homer - and six RBIs. BU improves to 29-13 overall, while Holy Cross falls to 9-27 on the season.

Lotito paced the Terriers' offense with four hits - one double and a home run - to go along with six runs batted in and two stolen bases. Classmate Christy Leath was also productive in the batter's box as she connected on three hits with a two-run long ball and three RBIs. Freshman Emily Roesch and sophomore Rachel Moeller also drove in multiple runs on the afternoon. In all, the squad connected on 18 hits, as eight different Terriers recorded at least one.

In the pitcher's circle, juniors Cassidi Hardy (15-4) and Megan Currier (8-7) were solid allowing just eight hits through 12 innings. In the first game, Hardy was forced to pitch just five innings, as the Terriers were leading by 12 midway through the fifth inning, and allowed just three hits for her ninth shutout of the season. She struck out 11 Crusaders and did not walk a batter all game. Currier allowed just one run on five hits to go along with five strikeouts.

In the first game, BU exploded for nine runs in the first as they nearly went through the batting order twice in the first frame. From the get-go the Terriers had runners on base, as Lotito led the game off with a single. After three runs crossed home plate, Leath unloaded a two-run homer and Lotito, in her second at-bat of the inning, recorded a two RBI double. Roesch drove in Lotito on single to left field to round on the scoring in that half inning.

In the third inning, BU tacked on two more runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Roesch and senior Nora Militz. BU closed its best offensive outing of the season with a final run in the top of the fifth on a single down the left line by Leath. Hardy retired the Crusaders in order in the bottom of the fifth to seal the victory.

In game two, the Terriers opened the scoring with a single run in the third on an RBI single by Lotito, plating freshman Erica Casacci. When they returned to the batter's box in the fourth, BU scored six runs on four hits, led by Lotito's three-run homer.

Holy Cross broke up the shutout bid as Erin Fleming homered to left field in the seventh for the Crusaders lone run of the afternoon.

BU will now turn its focus to top-ranked Stony Brook this weekend in a three-game series at BU Softball Field. The two teams will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday (April 18) beginning at 1 p.m. and will close out the regular-season series on Sunday (April 19) at noon.
