Game 2
Burlington, Vt. - The Boston University softball team took two games from Vermont (7-35, 3-14 AE) on Saturday afternoon as it improves to 33-15 overall and 11-5 in the America East. The Terriers won game one, 2-0, and edged the Catamounts, 1-0, in game two. The pitching duo of juniors Cassidi Hardy and Megan Currier shut down UVM’s offense with back-to-back shutouts, while senior Melissa Dubay scored the game-winning runs in both contests.
With her appearance vs. Vermont, Hardy tied the career mark for appearances with her 104th. In her start against the Catamounts, the Jupiter, Fla., native struck out two batters, scattered just two hits and did not issue a single walk over seven innings of work. No Catamount batter advanced past second base in the first game.
Currier was just as strong in her appearance as she gave up just two hits, one walk and recorded three strike outs over seven frames. Currier also did not allow a single runner past second.
In game one, senior Christy Leath’s triple down the left line scored Dubay, who just one at-bat earlier drew a walk and then stole second. It proved to be the game-winning hit; however, the Terriers added an insurance run in the seventh when junior Rachel Hebert doubled to down the left line to move freshman Christina Valdes home.
In game two, the Terriers and Catamounts locked horns for six scoreless innings until a wild pitch brought Dubay home for the game-winning run. Dubay had singled to third base to open the frame and a crucial sacrifice bunt from Leath advanced to her to third base, put her in a perfect position to pounce on the opportunity for the game-winning run.
BU and Vermont will complete the three-game series on Sunday (April 25) at noon.
