BOSTON - Brian Durocher, who led the Boston University women's ice hockey team to its first appearance in the national polls last year and has qualified for the Hockey East Tournament each of the last two seasons, received a three-year contract extension, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch announced today.
"This is a place where I would certainly love to finish my career," said Durocher. "I went to school here, I coached here two different times with the men and now I've had another highly exciting opportunity here with the women's program. There are still a number of years ahead of me but I think it's great to have the confidence and the support of the administration to move forward with the program, which is still a pretty young one to say the least."
Having just completed his fourth season with the program, Durocher has been its only head coach since its inception as a varsity squad in 2005.
"Brian continues to make our women's hockey team stronger each year, and just four years into this process we already have become a national contender," said Lynch. "His program has earned the respect of his coaching peers, and his student- athletes enjoy their experience with him. Retaining Brian's services was a priority for us and we are very happy to know that he will remain a Terrier for years to come."
Durocher's career record is 64-57-17, including an 18-11-7 overall mark last year and a 14-5-1 conference record that led to the team's second straight Women's Hockey East Tournament berth. He also played a significant role in the Terriers hosting the 2009 Women's Frozen Four at Agganis Arena.
A 1978 graduate of BU, Durocher co-captained the 1978 national champion men's ice hockey team. He later served 14 years over two stints as an assistant to Jack Parker.
