BOSTON - John Holland posted his seventh career double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Corey Lowe and Jake O'Brien tallied 20 each to lead the Boston University men's basketball team to a 75-63 victory over UMBC on Tuesday night in Case Gymnasium. After giving up a season-low eight turnovers to earn their third straight win, the Terriers improve to .500 at 8-8 and 3-1 in league play.

The trio combined to hit 10 of the Terriers' 11 3-pointers, with Lowe going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Recording career highs in both made free throws (10) and free throw attempts (11), O'Brien also added six rebounds and three blocks. Carlos Strong contributed a season-high five assists. Named America East player of the game, Holland helped BU win the rebound battle, 39-35, as the team finished 23-for-59 from the field (.390).

UMBC (1-14, 0-2 AE) had four men score in double figures, led by Chauncey Gilliam and Chris De La Rosa with 13 points each. The Retrievers' AE player of the game Jake Wasco had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while and Adrian Satchell added 10 points. They shot 24-for-56 (.429) from the field and committed 10 turnovers.

Trailing 7-0 following a Satchell layup at 17:12, Lowe scored eight of BU's 10 points, including a 3-pointer at 14:23 to give the Terriers their first lead at 10-9. After the game went back and forth for the next eight minutes, they ended the first half on a 13-5 run to break a tie and take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

Holland had a fastbreak dunk following a steal by Lowe and drained a 3-pointer for a 30-24 advantage with 3:24 remaining and then finished the half by grabbing a defensive rebound and flying across the court with a buzzer-beating layup for an eight-point advantage.

To start the second stanza, BU jumped out to a 15-point lead, 47-32, following treys from Lowe, O'Brien and Strong, but the Retrievers remained resolute and eventually cut the deficit to six, 59-53, at 6:20 off a Satchell jumper.

However, similar to the Hartford contest in which the Hawks fought back from a early second half 15-point disadvantage and eventually trailed by six with 8:56 left, a Terrier stepped up with a momentum-changing 3-pointer. In the previous game, Strong nailed the shot, but in this game, after starting 0-for-5 from beyond the arc, O'Brien made the play.

De La Rosa's driving layup and free throw with just under one minute remaining whittled the deficit to 71-63, but the Terriers made their free throws to extend the all-time series lead to 12-6.

BU will now hit the road for five of the next six games, starting with defending America East champion Binghamton on Thursday, Jan. 14, with tip-off set for 7 p.m. The Bearcats earlier in the night earned a 64-62 home victory over Stony Brook.
