Freshman Charlie Coyle of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been selected to the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team, as announced by USA Hockey on Wednesday morning. Coyle will look to help Team USA defend its title at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship, to be held Dec. 26 - Jan. 5 in Buffalo, N.Y.
This marks the fourth straight year that BU has had at least one player named to U.S. Junior roster. Last year, current junior David Warsofsky helped Team USA capture the gold medal at the event with a thrilling overtime victory against host Canada in the title game.
Coyle, who was selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by San Jose, has played in all 17 games this season for the Terriers and ranks fourth on the squad in scoring with 14 points on five goals and nine assists.
Freshmen Adam Clendening and Matt Nieto were part of Team USA's preliminary roster and participated in this week's pre-tournament camp, but were among the seven players cut from the final roster.
