WAKEFIELD, Mass. - After tallying assists on three of the Terriers' four goals last weekend, freshman forward Jill Cardella of the Boston University women's hockey team has been named the Women's Hockey East Bauer Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Cardella helped the Terriers take four points in two games against crosstown rival No. 9 Northeastern over the weekend. She assisted on both goals in a 2-2 tie with the Huskies that preceded a shootout win on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena, then set up Melissa Anderson's game-winning goal in a 2-1 win at Matthews Arena on Sunday.
Cardella ranks fourth on the team in scoring this season with 22 points evenly divided between goals and assists. The Rochester, N.Y., native is second in scoring among all Hockey East rookies. This week's honor is her second Hockey East Rookie of the Week award of the season and Cardella was also selected as the league's Rookie of the Month in November.
Cardella and the Terriers, who have already clinched a berth in the Hockey East tournament, close the regular season this weekend with a pair of games at home against Maine.
