Former Boston University standout Ryan Whitney has been named to the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, as announced by USA Hockey on Thursday. Whitney will be making his Olympic debut and joins a roster that already includes former Terrier Chris Drury, who will be appearing in his third consecutive Olympiad.
Whitney, currently with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL, was added to Team USA's roster along with fellow defenseman Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes as replacements for Mike Komisarek and Paul Martin, who will be unable to participate due to injury.
Whitney becomes the 30th former Terrier to be selected to participate in the Olympics and the 22nd who played for head coach Jack Parker.
The U.S. will open play at the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver on Tuesday, Feb. 16, against Switzerland.
