Despite a 2-for-3 batting performance with two RBIs from junior April Setterlund, the Boston University softball team (4-6) fell to UAB (13-5), 4-3, in the Terriers' final game at the USF Under Armour Invitational. Senior Cassidi Hardy took the loss in the pitcher's circle despite striking out seven batters.
In the game, Setterlund recorded her fifth two-bagger of the season to bring her career total to 32, as she is now three away from breaking the all-time double record. Hardy struck out seven, issued five walks and allowed four runs - three earned - on seven hits to fall to 3-2 on the season.
BU took an early one-run lead in the bottom of the first as Setterlund doubled down the left line to plate Mask; however, UAB came back in the next inning to score three runs on one hit - as Walden doubled down the left line to score two runs - and the squad tacked on an additional run on a walk.
The Terriers tied the game in the third as Setterlund again connected on a hit for two bases and junior Christina Valdes scored, and later scored on Rentler's RBI single.
In the fourth, UAB scored the game's final run on a double to center field.
BU will remain in Clearwater, Fla., to face Radford and Ball State on Tuesday (March 9) before taking part in the USF Under Armour Showcase vs. Saint Joseph's, Indiana, Jacksonville State, Cleveland State and Southern Illinois.
