ALBANY, N.Y. - The Boston University softball team improved to 20-12 overall and 5-0 in the America East Conference with back-to-back wins over Albany on Saturday afternoon. In the first game, BU claimed a 4-3 victory before winning 11-0 in five innings. Sophomore Erica Casacci led the way with four hits and three RBIs, while classmate Emily Roesch drove in four runs on three hits.

Casacci was 4-for-7 with two doubles and one walk, while Roesch went an impressive 3-for-5 with four RBIs and one home run. Freshman Taylor Cowan, junior April Setterlund and senior Rachel Hebert also had two hits through two games. Setterlund's two RBIs pushed her season total to 43 and she is now just one away from tying Chiya Louie's single-season record from 2007.

In the pitcher's circle, senior Cassidi Hardy took a no-hitter into fourth inning of the first game and finished with her 12th victory of the season, allowing five hits and three runs. She issued two walks and struck out six. Rookie Whitney Tuthill earned the victory in the second game, going the distance with a one-hit gem and not allowing a hit until the fifth and final inning. She struck out six and did not walk a single batter.

In the first game, both teams were unable to score until the fifth inning when Casacci doubled down the left line to plate Hebert and Tuthill. BU tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning when Roesch homered to left field that cleared the bases and brought sophomore Kayla Kruper home.

The Great Danes responded with two runs in the sixth inning off two hits - both doubles. In the seventh inning, BU shut down Albany as it stranded on base runner as Hebert made a diving catch at first base to secure the win.

In game two, the Terriers came at Albany from the get-go with five runs on five hits in the first inning. Three-straight singles brought home Casacci for the game's first run and Roesch doubled down the right line to plate senior Caitlin Rentler and Setterlund, before Cowan rounded out the first-inning scoring with a two-run single to center field.

In the third inning, BU added three more runs onto the scoreboard on RBI singles from Cowan and Hebert and a fielding error. BU finished the day with three runs in the fifth as Casacci recorded another RBI double and Setterlund followed up with a two-run long ball to left center field.

In the fifth, Albany recorded its first hit of the afternoon, but any rally attempt came up short as Tuthill struck out one and forced a ground out to end the game.

BU will look to complete the sweep on Sunday afternoon at noon in Albany, N.Y.
