BOSTON - For the second straight season, Boston University sophomore defenseman Tara Watchorn has been named a Women's Division I New England All-Star, the New England Hockey Writers announced Friday. Watchorn was the top-scoring defenseman for the Hockey East champion Terriers, tallying 17 points (3g, 14a) and netting the overtime game-winner in the Hockey East championship game.
Watchorn was named to the All-Star second team and All-Tournament Team in Hockey East this season. The Newcastle, Ont., native led BU's defenseman in scoring and finished fourth in the league in scoring among blueliners despite missing seven games due to injury and her participation in the MLP Cup in January, where she helped the Canadian Under-22 national team capture the gold medal, contributing one assist in the tournament. Watchorn posted a plus-17 rating for the Terriers to tie for the team lead.
The Terriers finished the season with a 17-9-12 record, winning the program's first Hockey East championship and setting a program record for fewest losses in a season. Watchorn will be presented with her award at the New England Hockey Writers' annual banquet on April 13 in Saugus.
