Junior John Holland was named the Most Valuable Player for the men's basketball team after becoming the first-ever Terrier in program history to lead the America East conference in scoring at 19.2 ppg. Named the league's rookie of the year in 2008, he earned his second consecutive all-conference first-team honor along with all-region accolades from the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the U.S. Writer's Basketball Association.

Setting the school record for minutes played at 1,205, Holland also set a record for points scored at 673 with 183 of them coming from the free-throw line, second-most ever at BU. His most impressive offensive performance occurred at Delaware during the BracetBusters, in which he scored a career-high 43 points in a 78-63 victory. Those were the most tallied in one game since BU Hall of Famer Tunji Awojobi ('97) had the same amount in 1996.

Holland also helped out on the defensive end, finishing second in rebounding at 6.1 rpg and in steals at 1.6 spg. With one season to go, he already ranks in the top 10 for several career records. He's sixth all-time in points (1,558), seventh in steals (153) and tied-for-fifth in made 3-pointers (179).
