Junior Darryl Partin led BU with 14 points, while senior John Holland had seven rebounds and 10 points to move within 13 of 2,000 career points. Named America East Player of the Game, junior Matt Griffin tallied eight points and a team-high eight rebounds to help the Terriers out-rebound UNH, 41-38.
Tyrone Conley received AE Player of the Game honors by recording 26 points and five rebounds. Both Brian Benson and Dane DiLiegro each had a game-high nine rebounds.
With the score tied at 17 apiece following a jumper by freshman D.J. Irving with 1:10 remaining in the first half, the Wildcats went on a 10-0 run that extended into the second half.
Chandler Rhoads drained one of UNH's 10 3-pointers at 17:55 in the second for a 27-17 lead. Junior Jeff Pelage cut the deficit to five (29-24) two minutes later, but Jordon Bronner responded with a trey.
The Terriers would get back within seven at 9:01 (37-30) and 3:52 (44-37) but UNH would hold off any potential rally for the 12-point victory.
Entering the contest with the nation's 34th-best scoring defense at 61.5 ppg allowed, the Wildcats shot 42.3 percent in the second half to finish 18-of-56 (.321), while BU went 14-of-52 (.269), including 5-of-21 (.238) from beyond the arc.
Junior Patrick Hazel had three of the Terriers' seven blocks and now ranks 10th at BU with 40 blocks in a season.
BU will next return to Agganis Arena and host conference leader Maine on Tuesday (Feb. 1) at 7:30 p.m. The contest will mark the Terriers' Coaches vs. Cancer contest.
Coach Chambers has pledged to donate $1 of his own money for every person that shows up in a suit and sneakers to help combat pediatric cancer.
As part of a national event to raise awareness about Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, all the coaches will be wearing sneakers with their suits to remind fans that they can all make a difference in the fight against cancer.
