BOSTON - Making its fourth consecutive ESPNU BracketBusters appearance, the Boston University men's basketball team will host former America East member Canisius at Agganis Arena on Saturday, Feb. 19, with tip-off set for 2 p.m. The Terriers hold a 13-8 all-time record with a 3-1 mark in the conference tournament against the Golden Griffins, who helped formed the America East in 1979 before departing for the MAAC in 1989.
With a 10-10 record and 4-6 mark in league action, Canisius has one of the more balanced attacks in the country with four players averaging between 11.0 and 11.3 ppg with a fifth player contributing 9.5 ppg. The Griffins are averaging 69.6 ppg and allowing 69.6 ppg, while shooting 42.5 percent from the field and hitting 7.8 3-pointers per game. Key wins include Siena, Iona, St. Bonaventure and Binghamton.
Owning a 3-0 record in the BracketBusters series, BU has wins against two MAAC squads (Iona, St. Peter's) along with a victory last year at CAA foe Delaware. The Terriers (10-13, 5-4 AE) earlier this season defeated MAAC member Marist 58-37 at Case Gym. They will face the Griffins for the first time sine a 69-56 win at Canisius in 2005 and will look to extend the win streak to four games in the series.
As a result of hosting the BracketBusters pool game, the Terriers will owe the Griffins a return game.
BU next hosts Maine on Tuesday (Feb. 1) at 7:30 p.m.
