After nearly averaging a triple-double in two games last week for the Boston University men's basketball team, sophomore D.J. Irving has been named GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week.
A native of Chester, Pa., he dominated in all phases of the game and led the Terriers to wins over Delaware and Boston College. A sophomore guard, Irving had a spectacular all-around week averaging 12.5 points, 9.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the two games.
He also shot 56 percent from the field (9-of-16), including 71 percent from three-point range (5-of-7), and had a 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, committing just four miscues in 68 minutes of action.
An America East All-Rookie selection last year, he scored eight points, grabbed seven boards and dished out a career-high 11 assists against Delaware Wednesday. He followed that performance by scoring 17 points to go with seven assists, six rebounds and two steals in the win over BC Saturday.
For the season, Irving ranks ninth among the league's scoring leaders (13.9 ppg), second in assists (5.3 apg) and fourth in steals (1.8 spg). He is averaging 15.3 points, 7.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game during the Terriers' current four-game win streak.
