CAMDEN, N.J. - The third varsity eight boat won the Petite Final and the two varsity eight boats won their respective Third Level Final to lead the Boston University women's rowing team Sunday afternoon at the Eastern Sprints on the Cooper River.
The Terriers took 10th overall in the team standings, finishing with 85 points. Princeton won the title with 192, followed by Brown (181), Yale (166), Cornell (154), Radcliffe (145), Penn (135), Dartmouth (134), Columbia (115) and Northeastern (115). BU placed ahead of eight schools, including Syracuse (76), Navy (74) and Georgetown (63).
The third varsity eight coxed by freshman Sarah Specht and stroked by freshman Jami LeRoy missed out on the Grand Final by 1.09 seconds, as Cornell took the final spot at 7:10.57. The Terriers regrouped in the afternoon and defeated Radcliffe by 1.61 seconds for the Petite Final victory.
BU had one other boat in the varsity four 'a' event reach the Petite Final. Coxed by sophomore Mia Serabian and stroked by Gabby Cutler, the Terriers placed fourth, finishing ahead of Syracuse and Columbia.
The V8 boat coxed by senior Alex Thornton and stroked by junior Claire Kuehnel placed fifth in its morning heat and then won the 3rd Level Final with a time of 6:55.00, 3.48 seconds ahead of MIT.
Also placing fifth in its morning heat, the 2V8 boat coxed by junior Kayla Rivers and stroked by freshman Mackenzie Wiler finished ahead of Georgetown by 2.07 seconds to win the 3rd Level Final.
In the V4b race, BU's boat coxed by sophomore Hannah Rooney and stroked by freshman Westanna Carleton placed sixth overall with a time of 8:07.00. Radcliffe finished ahead by 10.71 seconds for fifth.
