BURLINGTON, Vt. - Senior Darryl Partin tallied 19 points and sophomore Dom Morris recorded 11 rebounds, as the Boston University men's basketball team dropped its America East opener at Vermont, 83-69, on Thursday night.
Partin was one of three Terriers (4-11, 0-1) in double figures with senior Matt Griffin and sophomore Travis Robinson contributing 11 and 10 points, respectively. Named BU's America East Player of the Game, Morris added nine points to fall one short of a double-double, while senior Patrick Hazel had four blocks.
Shooting 45.6 percent from the field, the Catamounts (7-9, 1-1) were led by Four McGlynn's 20 points and Brian Voelkel's 16 rebounds. America East Player of the Game Matt Glass added 19 points and five rebounds, as UVM won the battle at the boards, 42-31.
Leading 51-45 with 12:14 remaining in regulation, the Catamounts went on a 13-4 run capped by Glass' 3-pointer. The Terriers pulled within 11 (67-56) at 6:13 off two free throws from Morris, but UVM reeled off eight straight points to prevent any chance of a late BU rally.
The Terriers grabbed their largest lead of the game, 13-8, off a Partin 3-pointer with 13:13 remaining in the first half. McGlynn though hit a trey in response. Pat Bergmann and Clancy Rugg added jumpers to help the Cats take the lead for good.
UVM shot 48.1 percent in the first half to take a 33-29 lead into the locker room, while BU shot 40 percent before finishing the game 23-of-57 (.404).
The Cats went 26-of-57 (.456) from the field and 25-of-31 (.806) at the charity stripe. They committed seven turnovers against the Terriers' 10 miscues.
After concluding a three-game road trip, the Terriers will return home on Sunday (Jan. 8) to host Binghamton with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.
The contest will follow the meeting between their female counterparts, who will face off at 1 p.m.
