BOSTON - The Boston University men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at the New England Championships on Friday and Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
The men’s squad earned 26 points for a 10th-place finish out of 34 teams, while the women’s team collected 24 points to finish 13th in a 35-team field.
The women’s team was led by its 4x800m relay team, which broke the previous meet record time of 8:58.73. The Terriers finished second with a time of 8:56.13. Sophomore Monica Adler continued her recent stretch of strong runs with a second-place finish in the 1,000m run (2:48.97). Sophomore Chelsea Curry placed fifth in the shot put (13.15m), while junior Catherine Milledge also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.85).
On the men’s side, senior Joel Senick broke the school and meet record in the 500m dash with a time of 1:01.62, which earned him a second-place finish. Senior Matt Paulson also had a strong day, as he too earned second-place points for the Terriers. He ran the mile in a time of 4:02.87.
The 4x400m relay team turned in a strong performance, as the Terriers claimed second with a time of 3:11.05. Other point-getters for BU were junior Robert Gibson, who finished eighth in the mile run (4:08.29), and freshman Michael Maloof, who took eighth in the weight throw (16.94m).
Athletes from both the men’s team and the women’s team will be in action next weekend. The men will remain at the Track and Tennis Center as they compete in the IC4A Championships, while the women will stay in Boston but head to the Reggie Lewis Center for the ECAC Championships.
