CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Boston University softball team concluded play at the Under Armour Showcase with its fourth straight win by defeating Miami (Ohio), 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Clearwater, Fla. The Terriers improve to 9-5 on the season.

Sophomore Chelsea O’Connor led the Terriers, going 2-for-3 at the plate while scoring a run. Classmate Jayme Mask registered one hit and an RBI while Megan Volpano, Melanie Delgado and Erica Casacci also posted hits for BU.

Sophomore Holli Floetker earned her third win of the tournament after pitching the final three innings of the game and allowing just one hit and no runs. Junior Whitney Tuthill got the start for the Terriers and went four innings.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the RedHawks got three straight two-out singles with the last hit driving in a runner to put Miami up, 1-0.

The Terriers scored the tying run in the bottom of the sixth. O’Connor got on base with a two-out single to right field then Volpano singled up the middle. O’Connor advanced to third while Volpano moved on to second on the throw. A wild pitch allowed O’Connor to score to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the seventh.

Miami was unable to score in the top of the frame before BU got its shot at victory. Delgado struck a single up the middle after two outs were posted and Kayla Kruper stepped in to pinch run. Casacci then walked, advancing Kruper to second before both runners took a base on a wild pitch. With Kruper in scoring position, Mask drove in the winning run with a single to shortstop and the Terriers took the 2-1 victory.

The Terriers will play the Dutch National team today at 3:30 p.m. for an exhibition contest. BU will remain in Clearwater, Fla., for the upcoming week and will play a trio of non-tournament games, starting with Fordham on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
