MEDFORD, Mass. - Junior Marita Stressenger and sophomore Sarah Dillard each turned in a first-place finish as the Boston University women's track & field team competed at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University on Saturday.
Stressenger finished the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:33.42, while Dillard placed first in the shot put with a mark of 12.95m. Dillard also finished second in the discus (39.63m) as part of her strong day.
The Terriers had two top-five finishes in the 200m dash, as sophomore Carolyn Maynard (25.79) and freshman Amber Muhammad (26.28) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Muhammad's best performance came in the 400m dash, however, as she was second in that event with a time of 59.47. Maynard was seventh in the 400m dash (1:01.59), while junior Nikki Long finished 10th (1:02.06).
Senior Kathleen Davies finished second in the 1500m run (4:45.12) and fourth in the 800m run (2:18.33), while freshman Victoria Perez placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.78.
In the field events, sophomore Alex Tomasi earned a sixth-place finish in the high jump (1.43m), while sophomore Betsy Bartlett was seventh in the pole vault (2.75m). Sophomore Chelsea Curry had a strong showing in the shot put with a fourth-place mark of 12.27m and junior Susan Ottey was sixth in the discus (33.29m).
BU will be in action all across the country next weekend, as the Terriers will have athletes at the Florida Relays (April 6-7), Stanford Invitational (April 6-7) and George Davis Invitational (April 7).
