Terriers Host Harvard for Tuesday Tilt

BOSTON - The Boston University softball team returns to the BU Softball Field on Tuesday to host Harvard in a non-conference matchup. First pitch between the Terriers and the Crimson is scheduled for 3 p.m.

BU (24-13, 8-3 America East) returns to its home field following a three-game series at Albany last weekend. The Terriers swept the Great Danes in a doubleheader on Saturday with a dominating 13-2 victory in five innings in the first game before winning 3-1 in the second game. On Sunday, Albany defeated BU 6-4.

Sophomore Brittany Clendenny led the team with a .500 batting average and a team-high RBIs en route to being named America East Player of the Week on Monday. Clendenny ranks third on the team with 36 hits. Classmate Megan Volpano leads the Terriers with 41 hits while fellow sophomores Jayme Mask and Chelsea O’Connor each have 39 hits on the season.

Sophomore Amy Ekart leads the team with 25 RBIs and has hit a team-best six home runs, including a grand slam against Albany last weekend.

In the circle, BU’s staff boasts a 1.98 ERA, which ranks 26th in all of Division I. Sophomore Holli Floetker leads the Terriers with a 13-3 record and a 1.4 ERA, which is 25th in the nation. The right-handed hurler also leads BU with 100 strikeouts in 120 innings of work. Junior Whitney Tuthill is second on the team with a 2.67 ERA and 6-4 record while classmate Erin Schuppert is 5-6 on the year with a 3.80 ERA.

BU’s team defense has been stellar, as the Terriers rank 15th in nation with a .974 fielding percentage.

Harvard makes the short journey to BU with a 24-10 overall record and 11-1 mark in the Ivy League. The Crimson swept rival Yale in a doubleheader over the weekend, defeating the Bulldogs by scores of 15-1 (five innings) and 9-2.

Senior Jane Alexander leads the Crimson with a .449 batting average and 48 hits on the season. Sophomore Kasey Lange is second on the team with 45 hits and has driven in a team-high 34 runs.

On the mound, senior Rachel Brown leads Harvard with a 14-4 mark and a 1.63 ERA with 171 strikeouts. Sophomore Laura Ricciardone boasts an ERA of 1.85 and a 10-5 record on the season.

BU remains at home for its next game on Thursday, April 19, when the Terriers host Rhode Island for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
