BOSTON - The Boston University softball team travels to Baltimore, Md., for a three game series at UMBC this weekend to conclude the regular season. The Terriers and the Retrievers will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 5, at 1 p.m. then play a single game on Sunday, May 6, at 12 p.m.

BU (34-14, 12-3 America East) was ranked No. 20 in this week’s Mid-Major College Softball Poll. Entering the last weekend of the regular season, BU has clinched its stop in the America East tournament and is still in the hunt for the No. 1 seed and home field advantage. Stony Brook leads the conference with a 12-2-1 record and can clinch the top spot with a sweep of Albany this weekend. The Terriers and the Great Danes are tied for second at 12-3 but BU holds the tiebreaker with a 2-1 record over Albany this season.

The Terriers, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, split in a pair of contests earlier this season. BU traveled to Maine on Tuesday to makeup a game with the Black Bears and came away with a 5-3 victory. On Tuesday, BU visited Amherst, Mass., to take on the Minutewomen and were edged, 1-0.

Sophomore Jayme Mask leads the team with a .358 batting average and 48 hits, trailing classmate Megan Volpano’s team high 49 hits. Volpano also leads BU with 32 RBIs. Sophomore Brittany Clendenny has been a power hitter for the Terriers, as she is third on the team with 47 hits but leads BU in extra base hits, with 14 doubles and seven home runs.

Sophomore Holli Floetker has been the leader in the circle for BU with a 16-3 record and 1.75 ERA. Junior Whitney Tuthill is 12-5 on the season after winning four of her last five starts. She holds a 2.23 ERA. Fellow junior Erin Schuppert holds an even 6-6 record with a 3.39 ERA. As a staff, BU ranks first in the conference with a 1.77 ERA.

UMBC enters the weekend with a 19-28 overall record and 1-14 mark in the America East. In their most recent outing, the Retrievers were swept in their three game series with Maine last weekend. Sophomore Jessica Warner leads UMBC with a .383 batting average and 55 hits, including 10 home runs, and 26 RBIs. Freshman Taylor Hall is second on the team with 50 hits, including 14 doubles, and 24 RBIs.

UMBC has employed several pitchers throughout the season with junior Heather Brown leading the team with 27 appearances. Brown is 7-11 on the season with a 4.64 ERA while senior Katie Ferguson is 8-10 on the year with a 2.82 ERA. Sophomore Kayla Martinez and freshman Miranda Clark have also seen action for the Retrievers and hold ERAs of 3.63 and 5.14, respectively.

The Terriers lead the all-time series with UMBC, 18-6, after taking two of three games from the Retrievers last season.
