DURHAM, N.H. - Snapping a three-game road losing streak, the Boston University men's basketball team featured four Terriers in double figures and shot 53.2 percent from the field to earn a 69-59 victory at New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon. With its third win in four games, BU improves to 9-10 and 3-3 in conference play.
Named America East Player of the Game, junior Dom Morris went 6-of-8 from the field to tie a personal best with a game-high 18 points. Freshman Maurice Watson Jr. contributed 13 points and four assists, while sophomore Malik Thomas tallied 11 points and three steals. Junior Travis Robinson hit three of BU's eight 3-pointers to finish with 11 points, and classmate D.J. Irving tied a career high in rebounds with seven while adding seven points.
The Wildcats (4-13, 0-5 AE) also had four men in double figures, but UNH was held to 36.8 percent shooting on the night. Hitting just one trey on five attempts, Chandler Rhoads had a team-high 16 points, while AE Player of the Game Patrick Konan posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Chris Matagrano and Ferg Myrick contributed 14 points apiece.
Konan opened the game with a layup to give UNH its lone lead of the game, as Morris quickly erased it with one of his own off a quick pass from Thomas. Leading by two with 5:11 left in the first half, BU finished on an 8-3 spurt behind a 3-pointer from Robinson and a layup plus free throw from Morris to enter the locker room ahead, 31-24.
The Terriers would never see their lead cut below seven in the second half, as they nailed six 3-pointers on 12 attempts against a team that ranked No. 2 nationally in holding opponents to 24.9 percent shooting from behind the arc.
Leading 37-30 at 16:12, BU went on an 11-2 run behind 3-pointers from Thomas, Robinson and Irving to grab its largest lead of the game, 48-32, with 12:01 remaining. The Wildcats eventually cut the deficit to seven at 6:52 (52-45) and 2:02 (63-56), respectively, but on each ensuing possession, Watson responded with a basket to prevent any chance of a comeback.
BU hit all four free throws in the final minute to seal the win and finish the game, 11-of-15 (.733), at the line. The Terriers had four more turnovers, 13-9, but many were unforced, as UNH only had one steal the entire contest.
The Wildcats went 14-of-20 (.700) from the charity stripe. They also recorded 16 second-chance points against BU's two with 12 offensive rebounds and finished with a 32-30 edge in rebounding.
Concluding a three-game road trip, the Terriers will play a visit to Albany on Wednesday (Jan. 23) with action set to begin at 7 p.m.
