BOSTON - Three Terriers scored in double figures, as the Boston University men's basketball team dropped a 71-55 decision to Stony Brook in the final regular season game at Agganis Arena on Thursday night. Holding their 18th opponent below 60 points, the Seawolves improve to 22-6 (13-2), while the Terriers fall to 17-12 and 11-5 in league play.

Freshman Maurice Watson Jr. earned America East Player of the Game honors with a team-high 13 points, five assists and two steals. Juniors D.J. Irving and Travis Robinson were the other two in double figures with 10 points apiece, as BU finished the night 21-of-55 (.382) and 6-of-23 (.261) from behind the arc.

Reigning America East Defensive Player of the Year Tommy Brenton recorded a double-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to earn AE Player of the Game accolades for the Seawolves. Jameel Warney posted a game-high 15 points with seven boards, while Anthony Jackson contributed 12 points.

Ranking third in the nation in holding teams to 36.7 percent shooting, Stony Brook jumped out to a 33-5 lead at 4:56 off two Brenton free throws. Overcoming the slow start, the Terriers rallied with a 23-5 run over the next seven minutes stretching into the second half to cut the deficit to 10.

Trailing 36-17 at the half, freshman John Papale opened with a 3-pointer, and then following a Jackson jumper, BU scored eight straight points behind the efforts of four individuals to pull within 38-28 at 17:26.

After a called timeout, Stony Brook pushed the lead back to 13 off a 3-pointer by Dave Coley. The Seawolves never allowed BU to cut the deficit to single digits to maintain sole possession of first place in the America East standings.

Shooting 56 percent from the field in the second half after going 7-of-30 (.233) in the first, the Terriers again pulled within 10 (53-43) at 8:27 following Watson's 3-pointer. However, Stony Brook responded with a tough layup by Brenton. Robinson's trey five minutes later cut the deficit to 63-50, and Coley hit a layup of his own to prevent any chance of a comeback.

The Seawolves finished 24-of-46 (.522) from the field and 20-of-26 (.769) at the charity stripe for their fifth straight win. They also won the battle at the glass, 40-23, to snap BU's six-game win streak.

Committing just eight turnovers, the Terriers converted 14 Stony Brook miscues into 18 points but only had four second-chance points and made 12 trips to the free throw line.

Banned from the America East tournament due to its upcoming move to the Patriot League, BU entered the week with an RPI ranking of 133 and will next await word on a potential postseason bid. Selection Sunday will be held on March 17.

The Terriers will officially join the Patriot League on July 1 with everyone returning and leave the America East after 34 years as the winningest program in league history with 319 victories against 185 defeats (.633). BU won six tournament titles (1983, 88, 90, 97, 2002, 11) and claimed eight regular season championships while making 15 trips to the conference finals.
