SMITHFIELD, R.I. - After standing hand in hand with Bryant University for the playing of the national anthem, the Boston University softball team overcame a three-run deficit to earn an 8-6 road victory on Tuesday afternoon. Extending their win streak to a season-high four games, the Terriers improve to 15-20-1, while the Bulldogs drop to 14-19.

All nine Terriers at the plate recorded at least one hit with seven of them reaching home. Junior Megan Volpano plated three runners, highlighted by the two-out, two-RBI double that broke the 6-6 deadlock in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore Emily Felbaum went a perfect 3-of-3, and junior Chelsea Kehr collected two RBIs on a fourth-inning single.

Senior Whitney Tuthill (11-11) pitched the final 5.1 innings and allowed two runs off four hits while recording four strikeouts against two walks. Freshman Lauren Hynes started in the circle and allowed four runs, three hits and two walks but was big at the plate, going 2-of-4 with an RBI single and two runs scored.

BU got on the board quickly when Mask led the game off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Hynes' hit up the middle. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the first with a three-run homer and then added a solo shot in the second to pull ahead, 4-1.

Wearing blue and yellow ribbons in honor of the Boston Marathon victims, The Terriers rallied in the fourth with three runs off four hits. Facing two outs with senior Emily Roesch on third and junior Brittany Clendenny on second, Kehr ripped the ball through the left side to cut the deficit to one run. Felbaum then went down the right field line to plate Kehr and tie the game at 4-4.

Hynes gave BU its second lead of the game in the top of the fifth by doubling to left field, advancing to third on a defensive throwing error and scoring on Volpano's sacrifice fly to center. Bryant though immediately responded again in the bottom of the inning by hitting a two-out, two-RBI double to grab a 6-5 advantage. With runners on the corners, Tuthill prevented any further damage by inducing a grounder to short.

Trailing by one, the Terriers scored three runs off three hits in the sixth inning to pull away for the win. Freshman Haley King opened with a double and then after Felbaum's third single scored on a grounder by Mask. With two outs and runners on the corners, Volpano cleared the bases with a double to center.

Tuthill shut the door on the Bulldogs by only allowing one hit in seven at-bats over the next two innings to move to .500 on the season. Bryant's Brittany Hart (6-9) pitched all seven innings and gave up 12 hits, six earned runs and a walk in the loss.

The Terriers will next visit Boston College on Thursday (April 18) with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
