BOSTON - Continuing a six-game homestand, the Boston University softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to Bryant on Thursday afternoon at the BU Softball Field. Avenging last week's 8-6 defeat, the Bulldogs improve to 18-20 with their fourth straight win, while the Terriers drop to 17-23-1.

Eight Terriers combined for nine hits with sophomore Emily Felbaum contributing a two-out, two-RBI double in the second inning. Junior Chelsea Kehr went 2-of-4 at the plate and hit an infield RBI single to give BU a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

Picking up the loss, freshman Lauren Hynes (3-6) went the distance for a second consecutive day and held the Bulldogs to three earned runs off eight hits and three walks while tallying four strikeouts.

The top of Bryant's lineup created the damage with lead-off hitter Lauren Guy going a perfect 2-of-2 while walking twice for three scored runs. She began in the first with a walk and then advanced to second on a grounder. Finishing 3-of-4 with two RBIs, Aubrey Mable helped plate her with a single.

BU came back in the second with junior Brittany Clendenny and freshman Haley King hitting back-to-back singles with two outs. Felbaum followed up with a bases-clearing blast to left center for the lead.

In the following inning, Hynes walked and later scored on Kehr's two-out infield single after a grounder by junior Megan Volpano and single by junior Amy Ekart.

Bryant began its comeback in the fifth after back-to-back outs. Guy singled through the left side and Kendall Corder walked. Mable then hit a double to left center to tie the game at 3-3. The Bulldogs tried to grab the lead in the sixth with a runner on third, but during the suicide squeeze, Hynes got the ball to Ekart at home in time for the tag out.

Finishing with a hit, two walks and two stolen bases, junior Jayme Mask was stranded on second in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bulldogs then took the lead in the seventh by earning a walk, advancing to third on a wild pitch and grounder and scoring on a fly ball dropped in the outfield.

The Terriers tried to rally with back-to-back singles after recording two outs, but Jennifer Jacob (3-5) induced a fly out to center for the win. She finished with five strikeouts and five walks in the complete-game effort.

BU will return to action at home on Saturday (April 27) in a Softball Fan Fest doubleheader against Maine. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., and fans are encouraged to arrive early, as food will be provided by Raising Canes.
