Four Terriers Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior Gemma Acheampong, senior Allison Barwise and freshman Toria Levy of the Boston University women's track and field team, along with senior Stephen Vitale of the men's track & field team, earned Patriot League weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday.

All four athletes shined in the Terriers' outdoor season-opener at the Hurricane Invitational this past weekend.The quartet combined for nine top-five finishes in various events throughout the weekend.

Acheampong was named Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week after she finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.68 seconds, which ranks 20th in the nation and first among Patriot League athletes. She was part of the 4x400m relay team that set a new school record with a time of 3:45.79, which was good for third place on Saturday. Acheampong also helped her 4x100m relay team claim first with a time of 41.36 seconds.

Barwise earned the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week award after she began her 2014 campaign with an NCAA-best mark of 1.84 meters in the high jump. She also claimed second in the javelin with a throw of 36.72 meters. In addition to her success in field events, Barwise was eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.72 seconds.

Levy picked up Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week honors thanks to third-place performances in both the 100m (14.10) and 400m (1:02.38) hurdles. She was also part of the Terriers' 4x100m relay team that placed fourth with a time of 51.38 seconds. She was also named Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week during her indoor campaign.

Vitale was selected as Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Week after his impressive showing in the 400m hurdles. He won the event with a time of 52.81 seconds, good for 16th in the nation and tops in the conference. In addition, Vitale placed sixth in the 110m hurdles with a mark of 15.59 seconds.

BU will return to action this weekend with athletes competing at three different events. The Terriers will be at the Central Florida Relays, the Raleigh Relays and the Snowflake Classic.
