RALEIGH, N.C. - The Boston University women's track & field team competed at the Raleigh Relays this past weekend hosted by N.C. State at Paul Derr Track.
A new 4x400m relay record was set for the second straight week, as the quartet of senior Carolyn Maynard, sophomore Christy Wood, freshman Toria Levy and senior Hannah Wiley combined for a time of 3:43.55 to place fifth overall. Wiley, junior Gemma Acheampong, sophomore Jade Paul and freshman Djenne Parris had a time of 3:45.79 last weekend at the Hurricane Invitational.
Senior Allison Barwise matched her NCAA-best mark of 1.84 meters to claim first place in the high jump while junior Tessa Runels was victorious in the college section of the triple jump (11.88m) and also finished eighth in the collegiate long jump (5.53m).
Several sprinters continued their strong 2014 seasons with top-10 finishes. Levy finished fifth in the 400m hurdles (59.78) with Wiley (1:01.76) taking 10th in that event. Senior Nikko Brady finished seventh in the final of the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 14.01 seconds. Levy (14.64), freshmen Ally Saccone (14.48) and sophomore Sophie Jacsurak (15.59) also competed in the 100m hurdles while junior Victoria Perez ran the 400m hurdles (1:07.24). The Terriers secured seventh in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:39.88 and also competed in the 4x100m relay (47.05) and had a second squad run the 4x400m relay (3:55.62).
Acheampong just missed qualifying for the final of the 100m dash with a time of 11.90 seconds. Wiley (12.40) and senior Janet Mellor (12.52) also competed in the 100m dash. Wood (55.82), Maynard (56.92) and Paul (57.04) all ran the 400m dash while junior Ashli Tagoai (4:42.10) and freshman Fiona Doolan (4:52.40) each took part in the 1,500m run.
Sophomore Michelle Sumner was ninth in the top section of the 10,000m run with a time of 35:23.32. Freshman Felicia Sciortino secured seventh in her section of the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:06.99. Classmate Sarah Saccoach had a time of 17:43.41 in the 5,000m run and sophomore Shelby Stableford finished second in her heat of that event with a time of 17:22.51.
Also in field events, Brady posted a mark of 5.80 meters in the collegiate section of the long jump. Senior Sarah Dillard had a mark of 41.57 meters in the discus and also competed in the hammer throw (41.19m).
BU will return to action next weekend as the Terriers compete at the Florida Relays and the Stanford Invitational.
