FAIRFAX, Va. – The Boston University women’s track & field team finished third at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
BU combined for nine top-10 finishes and two victories to earn 66 points, finishing behind only Columbia (80 points) and Navy (73.50).
Sophomore Michelle Sumner was victorious in the 5,000m run with a personal-best time of 16:59.52. Classmate Shelby Stableford finished fourth with a time of 17:33.62 and freshman Sarah Saccoach had a mark of 18:03.82. Freshman Felicia Sciortino claimed first place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:05.55.
Senior Nikko Brady finished third in the final 100m hurdles with a time of 14.09 seconds while junior Gemma Acheampong placed sixth in the final of the 100m dash with a time of 11.80 seconds and was also seventh in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 24.52 seconds. Brady also took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.82 meters, just shy of the first-place leap of 5.83 meters.
Senior Carolyn Maynard secured sixth in the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 55.83 seconds and also competed in the 200m dash (25.15). Junior Tessa Runels finished fifth in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 11.95 meters.
Senior Janet Mellor turned in a time of 12.46 seconds in the 100m dash and also competed in the 200m dash (25.50). Freshman Djenne Parris posted a time of 57.81 seconds in the 400m dash and ran the 200m dash in 25.33 seconds while junior Ashli Tagoai had a time of 4:42.77 in the 1,500m run.
BU will be back in action next week when the Terriers compete at the Holy Cross Decathlon (April 16-17) and the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT.
