PHILADELPHIA - Senior Nikko Brady won the eastern section of the long jump as the Boston University women's track & field team competed in the first day of the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday at Franklin Field.

Brady's victory came thanks to a mark of 6.21 meters, which was well ahead of the second-place leap of 5.92 meters. That is the second-best performance in program history, just shy of Tahari James' school record of 6.30 meters set at the 2009 Florida Relays.

Junior Tessa Runels also competed in the long jump and finished with a mark of 5.39 meters. Senior Hannah Wiley won the first heat of the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.69 to place 19th overall. Freshman Toria Levy also competed in that event with a time of 1:01.99.

The 4x100m relay team of Brady, Wiley, sophomore Christy Wood and junior Gemma Acheampong won its heat with a top-20 time of 46.33 seconds. The 4x400m relay team of Wood, Levy, Wiley and senior Carolyn Maynard finished 15th with a time of 3:44.48.

BU will be back in action tomorrow at Franklin Field with athletes competing in a multitude of events.
