Terriers Conclude Road Trip at Loyola Sunday Afternoon

BOSTON - Concluding a two-game road trip, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit Loyola Maryland on Sunday with tip-off slated for 1 p.m.

The Terriers (7-9, 3-2 PL) and Greyhounds (6-10, 2-3 PL) are meeting for the fourth straight season despite both teams entering just their second year in the Patriot League.

TERRIER TIDBITS

• BU has lost its last two Patriot League games after opening the conference slate at 3-0 ... The Terriers owned double-digit leads in the first half against both Lafayette and Colgate before ultimately coming up short.

• During their recent four-game win streak, BU averaged 25 trips to the line ... In the last two defeats, the Terriers made a combined 23 attempts at the charity stripe ... Before the back-to-back losses, they only once had fewer than 18 free throws, a 77-65 win over Binghamton in which they shot 28 3-pointers.

• Sophomore Cedric Hankerson ranks second in the Patriot League in scoring at 17.7 ppg ... On Wednesday, Colgate became just the second team this season to limit him below 15 points, joining Harvard, as he finished with three points for the second time.

• Sophomore Eric Fanning led BU with 15 points at Colgate ... Previously led the Terriers in scoring against Wentworth (15 pts.) and Lehigh (21 pts.) ... Top scorer off the bench at 9.9 ppg.

• Freshman Cheddi Mosely (7.6 ppg) reached double figures in back-to-back games for the first time with 13 points against both Lafayette and Colgate ... Has reached double figures in three of the last four games with a blank sheet at Navy.

• Junior Nathan Dieudonne ranks second in the league in rebounding at a team-high 7.4 rpg with 9.3 ppg ... Classmate Justin Alston averaged 9.4 ppg and 8.8 rpg in five games before the loss at Colgate.

• Junior John Papale was shutout for the fourth time in his career at Colgate after being unable to score two times as a sophomore ... He averages 9.4 ppg and leads BU in assists at 3.8 apg.

• After combining for three points at Colgate, Hankerson and Papale will look to duplicate last season's success at Loyola ... They finished in the 87-72 win at Loyola with 20 points apiece, as they shot a combined 11-of-12 from 3-point range. • BU has yet to win a game this season when held below 69 points.

• The Terriers will try to avoid their first three-game conference losing streak since 2008-09.

SCOUTING LOYOLA

• Loyola opened the Patriot League with 20+ point defeats to Navy and Army but rebounded with a 56-53 overtime upset defending conference champion American at home ... Then went 1-1 on the road with a 65-60 win at Lehigh and 69-65 loss at Lafayette.

• The Greyhounds own a 3-3 record at home with non-conference wins over Cornell and UMBC ... Posted a road win at BU head coach Joe Jones' former school Columbia, 64-62.

• 6-foot-2 guard Tyler Hubbard is averaging a team-high 12.4 ppg with 6-foot-6 guard Eric Laster averaging 10.3 ppg ... The Greyhounds as a team are averaging just 56.1 ppg while shooting 36.2 percent from the field.

• 6-foot-7 forward Jarred Jones and 6-foot-8 forward Cam Gregory are averaging nearly identical numbers at 7.5 rpg (6.5 ppg) and 7.4 rpg (6.4 ppg), respectively.

• The Greyhounds have shot 45.8 percent from 3-point range over the last three games ... Loyola leads the Patriot League in defending against the 3-pointer, limiting opponents to 31.0 percent.

SERIES HISTORY

• BU leads the all-time series, 3-2, after earning a sweep last season ... The Terriers followed up a 72-58 win at home with an 87-72 victory at Reitz Arena.

• The Terriers first beat the Greyhounds at the 1996 USF Holiday Tournament ... They met again in the 2012 BracketBusters and 2013 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament with Loyola winning both contests.

UP NEXT

• The Terriers return to Agganis Arena and host American on Wednesday (Jan. 21) in a rematch of the 2014 Patriot League title game at 7 p.m.

• Last year during the regular season, BU avenged an 86-56 blowout with a hard-fought 71-62 victory at Agganis to claim its first conference regular season title since 2004 ... The Eagles though shut down the Terriers' offense in the final, 55-36, to earn the automatic NCAA bid.
