BOSTON - After celebrating Thanksgiving, the Boston University men's basketball team will resume its five-game road trip on Saturday at Binghamton with tip off slated for 4 p.m.
The Terriers (2-3) are coming off a hard-fought 82-62 loss at No. 1 Kentucky and will try to avoid their first losing streak of the season. The Bearcats (1-3) on the flipside are seeking their first win streak after posting an 81-75 win at Central Connecticut State.
Both teams return all five starters from last year, but BU has yet to play a game with preseason All-Patriot League honoree Cedric Hankerson, who is still recovering from a leg injury suffered in the offseason.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• Saturday's contest marks the second of four scheduled games against the America East ... BU was a member from 1979-2013 before leaving that summer for the Patriot League ... In the first meeting, the Terriers rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to defeat the three-time defending America East champion Albany at home, 69-64.
• BU last went on a five-game road trip in the 2007-08 season ... Opened with win against Yale and head coach Joe Jones’ older brother, James, before dropping four straight.
• Senior John Papale, sophomore Cheddi Mosely and freshman Kyle Foreman have combined for 45 of BU’s 53 3FGs ... BU ranks 14th nationally in made 3FGs at 10.6 per game.
• Papale has hit five 3FGs in three of four games to rank second in the NCAA in made 3FGs (4.4) ... Earned back-to-back 21-pt. performances vs. Albany and at NJIT after reaching 20+ points a combined two times his first three years ... Ranks third at BU all-time in career treys (214) and needs 31 more points to reach 1,000.
• The reigning back-to-back PL Rookie of the Week Kyle Foreman is shooting a team-high 55.6 FG% to average 13.2 ppg while also averaging a team-high 5.2 apg.
• Opponents are averaging 9.2 more made FTs per game than the Terriers and are out-rebounding BU by 9.0 rpg.
• Senior Nathan Dieudonne owns BU's lone double-double (10p, 10r) this season vs. Northeastern ... Reached the 500-rebound milestone at South Florida last Saturday.
• In five games, BU has only once led at the half (+2 at South Florida) ... The Terriers have also only once been held below 46.0 FG% with a 37.0 FG% performance at No. 1 Kentucky.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
• Selected fifth in the America East preseason poll, the Bearcats have already fallen to one Patriot League squad with an 85-70 home loss to Army West Point ... Binghamton has a third PL member on the schedule with Colgate visiting campus next Tuesday.
• Binghamton is shooting 38.7 percent from the field while opponents are shooting 44.0 percent.
• Sophomore 6-foot-6 forward Willie Rodriguez ranks fourth in the America East in scoring (16.5 ppg.) and sixth in rebounding (6.8 rpg.) ... Finished with a career-high 27 points at CCSU.
• Freshman 6-foot-3 guard Everson Davis (9.5 ppg.) ranks seventh in the AE in assists (3.5 apg.).
• Freshman 6-foot-9 forward Thomas Bruce is tied for fourth in the AE in blocks (1.3 bpg.).
SERIES NOTES
• Terriers lead all-time series, 21-5 ... Won last nine meetings in series that dates back to 2001-02 ... BU has won each of the last four games by 12+ points apiece.
• Binghamton head coach Tommy Dempsey earned wins vs. BU in 2005 (71-64) and 2006 (66-60) with Rider.
• In last year’s meeting at BU, the Terriers hit 14 3-pointers for the 78-65 victory ... Duran Perovic had 34 points, most by an individual in regulation against BU since Stony Brook’s D.J. Munir tallied 35 on Feb. 11, 2003.
• In the previous trip to the Events Center, D.J. Irving (‘14) drained seven 3-pointers en route to 27 points for a 79-58 win ... John Papale added four treys for 12 points as a freshman.
