BOSTON - The No. 10/11 Boston University men's ice hockey team welcomes crosstown rival Northeastern to Agganis Arena for the opener of a weekend home-and-home series on Friday (Nov. 6) at 7:30 p.m. The Terriers will hold their second annual Military Appreciation Night.
Military personnel can purchase discounted tickets ($10, regularly $26) by showing their military ID at the Agganis Arena Ticket Office on the day of the game. Fans can visit Sunset Cantina after the game and by mentioning Agganis Arena, 15% of their check will be donated back to Operation Hat Trick.
BU ad the Huskies last met in February when they played each other three times in six days to close the regular season.
Friday's tilt features the top two career point scorers in the nation among active players. NU's Kevin Roy leads the way with 128 (55g, 73a) and BU's Danny O'Regan is right behind with 117 (50g, 67a).
This will be the 225th meeting between the Terriers and Huskies since they first took to the ice together during the 1930-31 season. BU holds a 158-58-8 (.723) advantage, including wins in six of the past seven meetings. The Terriers are 23-7-4 against Northeastern in regular-season meetings since the start of the 2005-06 campaign.
Northeasten opened the season with a 2-1 home win over Colgate but has since endured a six-game winless streak (0-5-1). The Huskies opened Hockey East play last week with a home-and-home set with Vermont. After a 3-2 home loss on Oct. 29, Northeastern skated to a 3-3 draw two nights laster in Burlington.
Juniors John Stevens (4g, 1a) and Zach Aston-Reese (5a) share the team lead in points with five each. Three others have four points, including Stevens' brother, Nolan, who has three goals and a helper.
Northeastern is allowing just 22.7 shots per game, good for third in the country, and the fewest among teams who have played more than two games.
The rivals split their Hockey East series last season with each team winning on the other's home ice on the final weekend of the regular season. The Huskies edged the Terriers, 6-5, at Agganis on Feb. 27 before BU responded with a 6-1 road win the following night.
Earlier that week, BU earned its 30th Beanpot crown with a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Huskies thanks to a goal from then-junior Matt Grzelcyk.
O'Regan, who has a team-high seven points (1g, 6a) this season, has enjoyed a great deal of success against Northeastern in his career, totaling 14 points (6g, 8a) in nine contests with three game-winning goals. In four Agganis meetings, the senior has erupted for 10 points on three goals and seven assists.
BU is coming off a 5-4 overtime victory over then-No. 5 Denver on Halloween. The Terriers are 3-0 at home this season but 0-3 on the road.
Northeastern will host the second half of the home-and-home on Saturday (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m.
