BOSTON - The No. 11/12 Boston University men's ice hockey team will return to Hockey East play this weekend when it hosts Vermont for a two-game series at Agganis Arena.
Friday's contest will start at 7:30 p.m. and series finale on Saturday gets underway at 4 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on Terrier TV.
BU (7-4-3, 3-2-2 Hockey East) has just one loss in its past nine contests, going 5-1-3 during the stretch. The Terriers are coming off a 3-3 tie against then-No. 16/15 Cornell at Red Hot Hockey on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Over their past eight games, the Catamounts are 1-5-2 and they enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-9-2 and a Hockey East mark of 2-4-2. UVM has dropped three games in a row and most recently was blanked by No. 20 Penn State, 4-0, on Sunday in the Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff.
The Terriers swept the season series with Vermont last year in Burlington, earning a 4-2 win the first night before Jack Eichel's overtime goal completed the sweep with a 2-1 triumph.
BU has twice as many wins in the all-time series, holding a 44-22-8 advantage (.649), and is 10-2-1 in the 13 meetings since the start of the 2010-11 season. The match-ups at Agganis have been competitive, however, as the Terriers hold a narrow 8-6-3 edge at their home rink.
Junior Mario Puskarich has a team-best 12 points this season for the Catatmounts and shares the squad lead in goals with sophomore Jarrid Privitera at five apiece. Former Terrier Alexx Privitera, Jarrid's brother, has put up seven points on two goals and five assists.
In goal, junior Mike Santaguida has started all 14 contests for UVM and has a 2.72 goals-against average to go along with a .908 save percentage.
The Terriers continue to be paced offensively by senior Danny O'Regan who boasts team highs in points (17) and assists (13). Linemates Ahti Oksanen (7g, 6a) and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (4g, 9a) are tied for second in points with 13 each.
Senior Sean Maguire, who earned his fifth career shutout in his last appearance on Nov. 24 against Bentley, is expected to earn the start in goal on Friday. He has made five appearances against Vermont, more than any other opponent, and has put together a .922 save percentage and 3.05 goals-against average.
O'Regan has six points (2g, 4a) in seven career games against the Catamounts while fellow senior Oksanen has four points, including three goals, in those seven contests.
The weekend set with Vermont marks the Terriers' final home games of 2015 as the next Agganis contest will take place on Jan. 9 against Massachusetts.
