The Boston University women's rowing team continued its spring season at home on Saturday, falling to one of the top programs in the country, the No. 3 Brown Bears in the annual battle for the Gorton Cup.

The Terriers were looking to win the Arlene Gorton Cup for the first time since 1993, but were swept by Brown in five races on the day. Also competing against the Terriers on Saturday were UMass and Northeastern, but neither were part of the Gorton Cup competition.

In the first race of the day for the Gorton Cup, the Terriers' V8 boat, coxed by senior Eline Vermeulen and stroked by junior Emily Lerhe, finished with a time of 7:12, in back of Cup winner Brown (6:42) and behind Northeastern (6:52) and UMass (6:58).

The second varsity eight boat, coxed by sophomore Emily Avrick and stroked by freshman Suzanne Greenwood, finished with a time of 7:02, behind Browns' first-place time of 6:38. Northeastern finished second (6:52) while UMass was third (6:58).

The Terriers varsity four "A" boat took third in its race, finishing with a time of 7:36, 1 second ahead of Northeastern (7:37). The V4A, coxed by sophomore Marlaina Miller and stroked by sophomore Emily Huber, finished just 3 seconds behind UMass (7:33) but well behind race winner Brown (7:15).

BU's four "B", coxed by freshman Jessica Grossman and stroked by junior Dana Hiniker, finished third in its race in a field of six. The Terriers finished with a time of 7:49, ahead of UMass (7:53), Brown C (8:00) and UMass C (8:08) but behind Brown (7:22) and Northeastern (7:47).

The Terriers third varsity eight boat competed last and finished in fourth place with a time of 7:17 behind Brown (6:44), UMass (7:12) and Northeastern (7:14).

Saturday was the Terriers' final home race of the season as they travel to Kingston, R.I. next week to face URI on April 25 before heading to Collingswood, N.J. to race in the Eastern Sprints on May 3.
