WASHINGTON, D.C. - Limiting its second consecutive opponent below 35 percent shooting, the Boston University men's basketball team rolled to a 61-50 victory at American on Wednesday night. With three Terriers reaching double figures, BU returns to .500 (9-9, 2-3 PL) after dropping three straight to open conference play.

Junior Eric Fanning tallied 12 of his team-high 14 points in the first half, while senior John Papale had 10 of his 13 in the second half to help the Terriers claim their third straight victory in the series with the Eagles (2-14, 0-5 PL). Junior Blaise Mbargorba claimed two blocks and tallied 11 points off the bench to reach double figures in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. Senior Nathan Dieudonne nearly had a second consecutive double-double with eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

American entered the contest averaging just 5.5 made 3-pointers per contest and tallied nine against BU with James Washington hitting four en route to a game-high 15 points. However, the Eagles only finished with 14 points in the paint and two second-chance points while shooting 17-of-49 (.347) from the field.

Washington drained a trey at 9:57 in the first half to give American its largest lead of the game, 17-11. Mbargorba came right back with a short jumper off an assist from sophomore Eric Johnson to ignite a 13-0 run capped by freshman Kyle Foreman's 3-pointer at 5:38.

The Eagles briefly cut the deficit to four (24-20) on a 3-pointer and entered the locker room trailing, 32-27, with the help of a buzzer-beating trey. They would never get closer though, as BU opened the second half with a 7-2 spurt and extended the lead to as high as 14 points late in the contest.

BU left points on the floor by shooting 5-of-14 (.357) at the line in the second half but still claimed a double-digit victory by shooting 22-of-48 (.458) from the field. The Terriers finished with a 34-14 advantage in points in the paint and only had 10 turnovers against the Eagles' 14 miscues.

The Terriers will have the weekend off and next host Loyola Maryland on Monday (Jan. 18) with the CBS Sports Network broadcast slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
