BOSTON - Beginning a second go-round in the Patriot League, the Boston University men's basketball team will host its second CBS Sports Network game against Lehigh in Case Gym on Sunday with tip-off slated for 12 p.m.
In their previous appearance on CBSSN, the Terriers (11-11, 4-5 PL) rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to defeat Loyola Maryland, 87-84, in overtime. Junior Eric Fanning led BU with a career-high 37 points. BU opened conference action with three straight losses but since then has won four of the last six contests, highlighted by Wednesday's 76-67 win at Army West Point.
The Mountain Hawks (6-13, 4-4 PL) have found greater success in the PL with a 4-4 mark after going 2-9 in the non-conference schedule. Seeking their first-two game win streak, they've won two of their last three with wins over Holy Cross (87-66) and Colgate (79-70).
TERRIER TIDBITS
• Senior Nathan Dieudonne (10.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg) has earned three straight double-doubles, including a 17-point & 18-rebound performance against the Black Knights on Wednesday ... His 18 rebounds are the most by a Terrier since BU Hall of Famer Tunji Awojobi had 21 against Delaware in 1996 ... He leads the PL in rebounding at 9.8 rpg and is the 17th Terrier to reach 800 career points and 600 rebounds.
• Sophomore Cheddi Mosely (13.4 ppg) led the Terriers in scoring for the fourth time vs. Army with 23 points ... He is averaging 19.3 ppg over the last four games after missing the previous three due to injury.
• Fanning ranks sixth in the PL in conference-only scoring at 14.8 ppg ... Other key contributors this year include sophomore Nick Havener (7.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg), who owns four double-doubles this year and ranks third in the PL-only rebounding at 8.0 rpg.
• With 255 career 3-pointers, senior John Papale (11.7 ppg) needs one more trey to move into sole possession of second place in the BU record book ... He owns a 3.25 assist-to-turnover ratio, which would shatter the current record of 2.81 owned by James Schwartz ('96).
• BU is 5-4 at home this season and 2-2 in conference action ... The Terriers rebounded from an 83-67 loss to Navy with wins over Lafayette (68-47) and Loyola Maryland (87-84 OT).
• Defensively, it's been an up-and-down affair for the Terriers in conference action ... They've held three opponents below 35 percent shooting but also saw five teams finish above .500 ... Lehigh coincidentally is the lone opponent to finish in the '40s' (46.2 FG%).
SCOUTING LEHIGH
• Lehigh is 2-8 on the road but 2-1 in conference games with two straight wins at American and Holy Cross ... The lone PL loss was just by one point at Loyola (51-50).
• Lehigh averages 73.0 ppg in PL games ... The Terriers are 2-11 when allowing that many points in a game this season ... The Mountain Hawks are holding conference opponents to 68.6 ppg ... BU has won a pair of games when held below that total but in both contests limited the opponents below 51 points.
• Reigning Patriot League Player of the Year and 6-foot-10 forward Tim Kempton is averaging a team-high 17.3 ppg and 7.9 rpg.
• Reigning PL Rookie of the Year and 5-foot-11 guard Kahron Ross led the PL last year in assists to snap BU's three-year streak of leading a conference and remains at the top this season at 5.7 apg while averaging 9.5 ppg.
• 6-foot-3 guard Kyle Leufroy is averaging 12.3 ppg in PL play, highlighted by his 20-point performance against the Terriers back on Jan. 6.
SERIES HISTORY
• Lehigh has won the last two meetings to tie the series, 3-3 ... BU won the first-ever meeting back in 1968 ... The teams have split in each of the last two years.
• Back on Jan. 2, Lehigh jumped out to a 13-point lead in the middle of the first half ... BU rallied to tie the game five times in the second half but could never get over the hump in an 81-73 loss.
• Kempton led the Mountain Hawks with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Leufroy had 20 points ... Lehigh went 10-of-17 (.588) from behind the arc and limited BU to 9-of-28 (.321) in 3-point territory while going 15-of-16 at the charity stripe ... Havener had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.
• In the previous matchup at Case Gym, BU led by 13 at the half and extended the lead to as high as 36 before winning, 75-56 ... The Terriers shot 14-of-25 (.560) from behind the arc ... Fanning had 21 points and six assists for the victory.
UP NEXT
• BU will try to avoid another PL sweep on Wednesday at Navy after falling to the Midshipmen, 83-67, at home back on Jan. 6.
• In the first meeting at The Roof, Navy jumped out to a 19-3 lead ... The Terriers rallied back to grab a 30-28 halftime advantage ... In the second half, though, BU had little success stopping Navy's offense, as the Mids scored 55 points with a 20-of-24 FT performance ... That remains the most points allowed by BU in a half this year.
