Terriers Finish Regular Season With 2-0 Win Over Navy

BOSTON – Two goals from seniors on Senior Day put the Boston University women's soccer team past Navy, 2-0, on Saturday at Nickerson Field and clinched a share of the Patriot League Regular Season Title.

The Terriers finish the regular season tied in the conference standings with Bucknell but will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament based on the head-to-head result. Bucknell will host the Patriot League Tournament on Nov. 4 and 6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It didn't take long to get on the board as Rachel Bloznalis used a corner kick to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead, and ultimately the win, in the fifth minute of play. Her service bent toward the far goal post and the keeper got her hands on it, but misplayed the ball and it went backwards into the goal.
Kelly Park very nearly scored later in the first half when McKenna Doyle played a perfect ball from the right corner to the front of the net, but Park's shot went too high and the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
Despite a dominant offensive start to the second half, it wasn't until the 71st minute that the Terriers got back on the board. Jesse Shreck took over a ball in the midst of four Midshipmen and sent it through to Erica Kosienski, who shot it on the run from 30 yards out to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead.
Navy put together its best attacking effort shortly after the BU goal, rifling off three of their six total shots over the next five minutes. It wasn't enough, however, and the Terriers came away with their fifth shutout of the season.

GAME NOTES

The win extends BU's unbeaten streak to nine games, which includes an eight-game win streak in conference matches.
The Terriers outshot the Black Knights, 22-6, including 9-2 on target.
BU ends the season with its conference home game undefeated streak still intact, now standing at 39 games until the start of the 2017 conference schedule.
