Saint Peter's Pulls Away Late to Defeat BU, 80-67

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Despite shooting 50 percent from the field and sophomore Kyle Foreman tallying a career-high 20 points, the Boston University men's basketball team saw its four-game win streak snapped at Saint Peter's, 80-67, on Monday night.

THE TURNING POINT

  • After junior Cheddi Mosely cut a nine-point deficit to 56-53 on back-to-back 3-pointers at 9:58, SPU went on a 7-2 spurt and never saw its lead cut below six the rest of the way.
THE SETUP
  • BU jumped out to early 7-0 lead with sophomore Kyle Foreman successfully driving to the hoop for a pair of layups plus a free throw on a converted 3-point play.
  • SPU started feeding leading SPU scorer Quadir Welton (16.3 ppg), and he scored the first seven points for the Peacoks, while starting BU senior forward Justin Alston collected a pair of quick fouls.
  • Down 16-13, Nick Griffin hit the first of SPU's five first-half 3-pointers at 12:13 to ignite a 17-3 run capped by Trevis Wyche's trey at 7:04.
  • BU clawed its way back and used a turnaround jumper from senior Dylan Haines with 13 seconds left to trail at the half, 35-31.
  • After going 0-of-3 from three in the first half, Antwon Portley drained his first of four bombs at 18:45 to push the lead to 39-31.
GAME NOTES
  • Foreman went 8-of-11 and added four free throws to finish at 20 points, topping his previous high of 17, while adding five assists. 
  • With Alston and senior Blaise Mbargorba plagued by foul trouble, senior Dylan Haines came off the bench to lead BU with a career-tying 10 points off personal-best five made field goals while adding team-high five rebounds.
  • Senior and leading scorer Eric Fanning (16.0 ppg) was limited to three points on 0-of-7 shooting, as he went without a field goal for the first time since Feb. 28, 2015.
  • A preseason All-MAAC honoree, Welton tallied a career-high 27 points while adding five rebounds and a block.
  • Besides posting a 9-5 advantage in 3-pointers and 21-8 lead in free throws, the Peacocks also outscored BU in points off turnovers, 23-9.
  • The Terriers are now 3-1 this season when shooting 50 percent or better after going 6-1 last season.
  • SPU snapped a three-game home losing streak to the Terriers and won their second consecutive, as BU remains ahead in the all-time series, 7-4.
NEXT UP: UCONN
  • The Terriers will continue their three-game road trip against UConn at the XL Center in Hartford on Wednesday (Nov. 30) with the SNY broadcast set for 7 p.m.
  • The Huskies lead the all-time series, 42-12, and have won the last four meetings, including a 77-60 victory in 2013.
  • Men's Basketball is the second Terrier squad to be visiting the XL Center this year after Men's Hockey triumphed over the Huskies, 2-1, back on Nov. 18.
