BU Eliminated by Bucknell in Patriot League Quarterfinal PK Shootout

BOSTON – Despite owning a 10-shot advantage, the No. 4-seed Boston University men's soccer team came up just short in the Patriot League quarterfinals with a 1-1 draw that ended with No. 5 Bucknell advancing on a 4-1 penalty kick shootout performance Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bucknell struck first in the 29th minute by taking advantage of a corner kick with Sebastiaan Blickman's blocked header leading to a successful header from Quinn Bredin.
- Senior Matt Gilbert had an impressive kick save in the 42nd minute and a stellar diving stop six minutes later to keep the deficit at one goal.
- Junior Anthony Viteri tied the game at 78:41 with a hard shot past the keeper Ryan Ott on assists from seniors Felix De Bona and David Amirani.
- BU out shot Bucknell, 5-1, in the two overtime sessions, as the game ended in a draw.
- The Bison converted on all four penalty kicks and had two stops with the help of Ott and the crossbar.
- The Terriers and Bison have now gone to overtime in all six meetings with Bucknell owning a 2-0-4 advantage in the series.
- BU was eliminated by way of penalty kicks for the first time since the 2007 America East quarterfinals.
- The Terriers finished with a 29-19 advantage in shot attempts and a 7-7 tie in corners.
- Gilbert tallied seven saves against Ott's five.
- With the goal, junior Anthony Viteri finished the season tied with senior Felix De Bona for the team in points at 18 apiece off eight goals and two assists ... Coincidentally, both men were named to the MAC Hermann Award preseason watch list.
- Despite only playing in 52 games over three seasons, senior Matt Gilbert will graduate No. 4 all-time at BU in saves with 232.
