THE TURNING POINT
  • Leading 48-44 early in the second half, Syracuse went on a 16-0 run and never saw its lead cut below 17 the rest of the way.
  • The Orange shot 55.2 percent in the second half and added 15 free throws to prevent the Terriers from mounting a rally.
THE SET UP
  • Senior Justin Alston opened the game with a slam dunk and added another one-handed slam on a fastbreak pass from sophomore Kyle Foreman to grab a 12-10 lead at 15:31.
  • With the score tied at 12, junior Cedric Hankerson followed senior Dylan Haines' short jumper with back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Terriers their largest lead of the game at 12:53 (20-12).
  • Syracuse used three 3-pointers in an 11-3 spurt to tie the game and had another 3-pointer from John Gillon at 4:13 to grab the lead for good, 32-29.
  • Facing a 10-point deficit, Hankerson hit his fifth 3-pointer of the half and was followed by a buzzer-beating trey from junior Cheddi Mosely that was set up by freshman Tyler Scanlon's offensive rebound.
  • The Orange opened the second half with their eighth 3-pointer, but Scanlon's trey and Alston's layup cut the deficit to four (48-44) at 18:58.
GAME NOTES
  • Already owner of the school record for steals in a game with nine, Hankerson hit 10 3-pointers to break the previous program record held by Carlos Strong ('10), who drained eight vs. Binghamton on Feb. 8, 2007.
  • The 10 3-pointers are one shy of the Patriot League record set in 2003 by former Bucknell player and current Endicott head coach Kevin Bettencourt and tie the Carrier Dome record.
  • Hankerson joins Chris Hill (Michigan St., 2003) and Brendan Plavich (Charlotte, 2003) in being the only players to hit 10 3-pointers against Syracuse.
  • Finishing 10-of-20 from three and 4-of-6 at the line, Hankerson's 34 points top his previous high of 26 set at New Hampshire on Nov. 25, 2014.
  • BU went 16-of-41 (.390) from three and set a team record for 3-point attempts in a game while going 9-of-28 inside the line against Syracuse's famed zone defense.
  • Senior Eric Fanning was one rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points.
  • Syracuse entered the game averaging nine 3-pointers and 40.0 3FG% ... The Orange went 14-of-32 (.438) with Andrew White III and Gillon going a combined 11-of-16.
  • The Orange improved to 7-1 all-time against the Terriers in BU's first visit to the Carrier Dome since the 1993-94 season.
  • Syracuse improved to 6-0 at home and 3-0 vs. the Patriot League this season with earlier blowout wins over Colgate (83-55) and Holy Cross (90-46).
  • The Terriers have now lost five straight with four coming on the road and three coming against major conference opponents.
  • BU was outscored in the paint for the first time this season, 24-16.
NEXT UP
  • Terriers will take a week off to focus on finals and then host New Hampshire on Sunday (Dec. 18) at 1 p.m.
