RALEIGH, N.C. – For the second consecutive game, the Boston University men's basketball team battled a major conference opponent on the road to the final seconds but came up just short at NC State, 77-73, on Saturday evening despite owning a higher field goal shooting percentage.

TURNING POINT
- Facing a one-point deficit (45-44), BU missed an open 3-pointer at 15:27, and NCSU followed with a 20-5 run over the next six minutes.
- The Terriers eventually pulled within five at 3:20 (69-64) on junior Cedric Hankerson's 3-pointer and had a chance to move even closer following a steal but missed their next four field goal attempts, as the Wolfpack hit just enough free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
THE SETUP
- NC State jumped out to a 9-2 lead over the first three minutes and extended their advantage to as high as 13 (32-19) at 6:25 on a 3-pointer.
- Senior Eric Fanning scored BU's next six points to ignite an 11-3 run capped by freshman Tyler Scanlon's first of three 3-pointers at 1:26.
- Scanlon hit his second with 12 seconds left to put the halftime deficit at 39-33.
- Abdul-Malik Abu started the second with a block and a free throw to give the Wolfpack a seven-point lead, but Fanning responded with a converted 3-pint play to spark an 11-2 run.
- Scanlon tied the game for the first time at 18:06 (40-40) and a second time one minute later before sophomore Kyle Foreman gave the Terriers their first and only lead of the game at 16:25 (44-42) on a successful layup.
- The Terriers were only down 51-47 at 13:26 when Terry Henderson scored eight straight points on a jumper and pair of treys during the game-changing run.
GAME NOTES
- Scanlon tied a season high with 15 points while adding a personal-best nine rebounds.
- Foreman dished out a career-high nine assists and was one of three Terriers with two steals apiece.
- Fanning led the Terriers in scoring for the second consecutive game after tallying a game-high 21 points at UConn on Wednesday.
- BU's defense held NC State to 24-of-57 (.421) shooting after the Wolfpack entered the contest with a season average of 50.5 FG%.
- BU has outscored all eight opponents in the paint this season after accomplishing the feat 11 times all last year.
- BU fell to 4-2 this year when shooting a greater field goal percentage after going 19-2 last season.
- The Terriers saw its two-game win streak against the ACC under head coach Joe Jones snapped following earlier road wins at Boston College (2011-12) and Maryland (2013-14).
- NC State improved to 3-0 all-time against BU in the teams' first meeting since 1996.
NEXT UP: CANISIUS
- Following a three-game road trip, the Terriers return home to host Canisius on Wednesday (Dec. 7) at 7:30 p.m. as part of a BU basketball doubleheader with the women facing Dartmouth at 5:30 p.m.
- The Terriers lost last year at Canisius, 84-68, but still maintain a 14-10 all-time lead in the series.
- BU won the last meeting at home, 70-62, during the 2010-11 season.
