BOSTON – Boosted by junior Cedric Hankerson's five 3-pointers, the Boston University men's basketball team rallied to cut a 16-point second half deficit to two, but Canisius hit enough free throws down the stretch to defeat the Terriers, 87-77, on Wednesday night at Case Gym.

THE TURNING POINT
- After junior Cheddi Mosely's 3-pointer cut BU's deficit to three (71-68) at 4:49, Kassius Robertson immediately responded with one of his own to prevent the Terriers from mounting a successful rally.
- The Golden Griffins went 7-of-8 at the line in the final four minutes to help seal the victory.
THE SETUP
- Junior Cedric Hankerson hit his first of five 3-pointers at 17:18 for an early 7-2 lead, and senior Eric Fanning hit a pair of free throws at 9:54 to keep the lead at five (24-19).
- Down 29-26 with 7:48 left in the half, Canisius finished on a 22-6 run with the help of six 3-pointers to enter the locker room ahead, 48-35.
- The Golden Griffins extended their lead to a game-high 16 points (57-41) at 15:50 on Robertson's layup.
- Hankerson and freshman Destin Barnes combined for 11 points during a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to five at 11:19 (59-54).
- The two Terriers scored five straight on Barnes' layup and Hankerson's 3-pointer to pull within two (65-63) at 7:58.
- Junior Nick Havener responded to Phil Valenti's pair of free throws with a slam dunk to keep the deficit at two, but Valenti came back with four straight points on two free throws and a layup.
GAME NOTES
- BU shot 56.0 percent in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome a 38.9 first-half shooting percentage.
- Tonight marked the first time this season the Terriers shot better than 30 percent from three (10-of-22, 45.5 3FG%) and lost, as Canisius went 11-of-22 for 50.0 percent.
- Hankerson went 5-of-8 from behind the arc and added three free throws for a team-high 18 points, while sophomore Kyle Foreman dished out at least five assists (six total) for the fifth straight game.
- Canisius scored more than 76 points for the fourth straight contest with five Griffs reaching double figures.
- The Terriers saw their four-game home win streak snapped and were unable to outscore an opponent in the paint (tied 30-30) for the first time this season.
NEXT UP: SYRACUSE
- The Terriers will face their third major conference opponent in four games when they visit Syracuse on Saturday (Dec. 10) at 12 p.m.
- BU previously fell at UConn (51-49) and NC State (77-730.
