BOSTON - Riding a season-high five-game win streak, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit Loyola Maryland on Saturday with tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
The Terriers (15-11, 8-5 PL) will enter the contest seeking their third straight sweep over a Patriot League opponent after posting wins at Lafayette (89-82 OT) last weekend and vs. American (71-51) this past Wednesday. They will face a Greyhounds squad (8-16, 6-7 PL) that has won four of its last six games and will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's 71-51 home loss to Navy.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• BU's five-game win streak is the longest since the Terriers won seven during conference action in 2014 en route to the conference regular season title ... They are 8-7 on the road this year after going 5-10 last season.
• With five games left in the regular season, the Terriers are currently in a three-way tie for second with both Navy and Lehigh, two teams that BU split with this year ... Bucknell leads the standings at 10-3, while Colgate and Loyola are both only one game behind BU.
• BU is averaging 78.8 ppg and shooting 49.1 percent during the five-game win streak, while opponents are being held to 69.0 ppg and 42.3 FG% ... The Terriers have yet to lose a game when scoring at least 70 points this season.
• Sophomore Cheddi Mosely (14.0 ppg) is averaging a team-high 17.6 ppg while shooting 53.6 percent from behind the arc during the streak after posting 20 points against American ... Junior Eric Fanning (15.0 ppg) recorded 25 points in the win over the Eagles and is shooting 52.0 percent for the season.
• Senior Nathan Dieudonne (10.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg) saw his PL-only rebounding average drop below double figures to 9.8 rpg after leaving late in the first half on Wednesday with just three rebounds due to injury ... Junior Blaise Mbargorba (3.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg) stepped in to play 16 of his 25 minutes in the second half to led BU in rebounding for the first time ever with a career-tying seven rebounds ... Sophomore Nick Havener (7.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg) ranks fifth in the PL-only rebounding category at 6.5 rpg.
• Freshman Kyle Foreman (9.7 ppg, 4.0 apg) has reached double figures in each of the last three games and has tallied a team-high eight steals during the last five games ... Mbargorba has posted 11 blocks during the same stretch as well to help defensively, while Havener has earned six.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYLAND
• The Greyhounds are 4-7 at home with a 4-3 mark against Patriot League opponents ... Their four wins came against American, Lehigh, Lafayette and Colgate.
• Loyola shoots 42.6 percent from the field and is averaging 69.7 ppg ... The Greyhounds are holding opponents to 70.7 ppg in PL contests ... In all 11 losses, BU was held below 70 points.
• Jarred Jones leads in both scoring (14.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg) ... Andre Walker (13.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.5 rpg) is the reigning PL Player of the Week after averaging 19.3 ppg in three games last week ... The two men combined for 59 points in last week's 100-99 OT win at Army.
• Loyola is 1-3 in overtime games this year with oddly all four games taking place on the road ... BU is 2-1 with an 89-82 road victory.
• The Greyhounds are only averaging 4.9 made 3-pointers per game, while BU is averaging 8.1 ... The Terriers are 10-4 this season when hitting more treys than opponents.
SERIES HISTORY
• BU leads the all-time series, 5-3, and is 4-1 since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013 with a 1-3 mark on the road ... The Terriers won the first-ever meeting in 1996 on a neutral court in Florida and then dropped the next two at Loyola in the 2012 BracketBusters and 2013 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
• Last season, Loyola pulled out a 91-86 overtime win at home ... The game was one to forget for the Terriers, as they shot 13-of-31(.419) from the free throw line in regulation ... They missed a pair of free throws with under a second left to send the game to OT ... Dieudonne (11 pts., 14 rebs.) had a double-double, while Mosely tallied a season-high 23 points.
• BU has won the last two games against Loyola at home, including last month's 87-84 overtime win ... The Greyhounds led by as many as 14 in the middle of the second half, but BU rallied to force an extra session with Mosely hitting one of two free throws with three seconds left in regulation after Loyola missed two attempts at the charity stripe.
• Loyola cut the deficit to one, but Fanning hit two free throws to seal the victory, as the Greyhounds missed a game-tying 3-pointer before the buzzer in OT ... Fanning finished with a career-high 37 points, the most by a Terrier since 2010.
UP NEXT
• The Terriers will try to snap a three-game losing streak to Colgate when they host the Raiders on Wednesday (Feb. 17) at 7 p.m.
• Back on Jan. 20, BU pulled within 53-50, but the Raiders went on a 14-2 run en route to an 85-78 win ... Colgate shot 58.3 FG% and drained 14 3-pointers ... Dieudonne had a double-double (14 pts., 10 rebs.), while Mosely recorded a team-high 17 points for BU.
