The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams competed in day one of the Patriot League Championships at the TTC on Friday in the women’s pentathlon and the first four events of the men's heptathlon.
Senior Catherine Sampson finished first in the pentathlon for the Terriers, earning 3,709 points to beat out second-place finisher Gabrielle Wardle of Lehigh (3,595). Entering the final event of the day in second place, Sampson won the 800 meters by a wide margin with a time of 2:21.09 and the pentathlon crown.
Junior Christie Molloy finished in third place for BU with 3,420 points to give the BU women’s team an early lead in the Patriot League Championship point standings with 16. Lehigh is in second place after one event with 9 points while Holy Cross and Bucknell are tied for third with 7 points.
In the men’s heptathlon, sophomore Jason Biesma is in eighth place through four events, with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meter run to be determined on Saturday. Army’s Tyler Davis leads the field with 893 points after day one.
The Patriot League Championships continue on Saturday with the conclusion of the heptathlon as well as the men and women's weight throw, long jump and high jump in the field and finals in the 5,000-meter runs and 4x800 relays. The championship will conclude on Sunday with 24 track finals as well as pole vault, triple jump and shot put in the field.
