LOS ANGELES - The Boston University softball team rallied from two late deficits but ultimately came up just short in a doubleheader loss at Loyola Marymount on Thursday afternoon.

The Lions (13-6) used a two-run homer in the sixth inning of the first game for a 3-1 victory and added a walk-off solo blast to defeat the Terriers (4-11) a second time, 6-5.

Freshman Emily Morrow led the BU offense with a 5-of-7 performance at the plate and three RBIs, as the Terriers finished with an 18-17 advantage in hits. LMU demonstrated more power though with eight extra-base hits, including three homers, against BU's lone double by sophomore Jilee Schanda.

In the first game, senior Lauren Hynes (3-5) had another solid performance, limiting the Lions to just one run on a two-out double through the first five innings. LMU however opened the sixth with a double and took the lead for good on a two-run homer to left by All-WCC honoree Amanda Dirks.

The Terriers had several opportunities to add more runs, starting in the first when they had runners at first and second with one out. They managed to tie the game, 1-1, in the sixth after sophomore Emma Wong singled, advanced to second on junior Moriah Connolly's single and scored on Morrow's two-out RBI single.

BU though left two more runners on the base paths and had the game-tying run up to bat twice in the seventh. LMU's Rachael Farrington (6-3) was too strong, allowing just six hits while posting four strikeouts against one walk for the victory.

Highlighted by Dirks' three-run blast against sophomore Sydni Overly, the Lions jumped out ahead, 4-0, in the bottom of the first of the second game. Junior Makinna Akers (0-1) pitched four straight scoreless innings in relief to help keep BU in the game.

After stranding a combined five runners in the first three innings, the Terrier offense finally converted in the fifth with three runs off four hits. Junior Brittany Younan followed Schanda's double with an infield single to put runners at the corners. Wong and sophomore Kaitlin Sahlinger later had RBI groundouts.

With two outs, Morrow singled up the middle to plate Connolly to cut the deficit to 4-3. LMU came back in the sixth with an RBI double, but the lead was short lived, as the Terriers added two runs off three hits in the top of the seventh.

Wong led off with a single and eventually moved to third following Connolly's single. A double steal with no outs put the score at 5-4. Sahlinger had a sacrifice bunt, and Morrow came up big again with another RBI single to tie the game.

The Terriers were unable to head to extra innings though, as Tennessee transfer Shianne Ybarra sent the first pitch with one out over the right-center portion of the outfield wall for the 6-5 win.

BU will next participate in UC Riverside's Mizuno Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Terriers will first face Southern Utah at 12 p.m. ET and then the host Highlanders at 5 p.m. ET.
