SAN DIEGO -
Opening the San Diego Classic against a pair of teams with double-digit victories, the Boston University softball team fell to both No. 9 Texas A&M and Grand Canyon at the SDSU Softball Stadium.

The Terriers (3-8) were within striking distance going into the fifth inning of each contest but gave up five runs apiece for a 9-1 loss to the Aggies (18-1) and 10-3 defeat to the Antelopes (15-5).

Texas A&M and Grand Canyon were limited to a combined 13 hits by the BU pitching staff but still managed to record 19 runs with the help of 24 walks.

In an error-filled first game that featured a combined eight miscues, Grand Canyon scored two runs in the first and added three during the top of the fourth for a commanding 5-0 lead. The Terriers though came back with three of their own.

Freshman Alex Heinen and sophomore Kaitlin Sahlinger both hit a single to put runners at the corners and then advanced a base after the Antelopes mishandled a grounder by sophomore Jilee Schanda. The Terriers added two more runs on errors but would not get another hit the rest of the game for the loss.

During the second game, the Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second off a two-RBI single. BU loaded the bases in the third with the help of two walks and an error. Junior Brittany Younan put the ball in play to drive home freshman Emily Morrow, but the Terriers were unable to add more on the scoreboard.

The Aggies pushed the lead to 4-1 in the third off a hit and four walks. They added a run in the fifth and scored four times during the sixth to claim the run-rule victory.

BU will continue the San Diego Classic on Saturday against Utah Valley with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. ET on SDSU's campus.
